Would you park your car for five weeks if Metro paid you $600?
That’s exactly what Los Angeles Metro is offering through its expanded One Car Challenge. The program will pay up to $600 per household to as many as 2,000 Los Angeles County households that agree to leave at least one vehicle parked and instead use public transit, walking, biking, carpooling or other transportation for five weeks. For the first time, even one-car households can participate. Travel activity will be tracked through the GoCarma smartphone app.
Metro reports a Santa Monica pilot reduced solo driving and increased walking, biking and transit use. The agency hopes the program will help reduce congestion as Los Angeles prepares for the 2028 Olympics.
