Dream Come True: Chipotle Guac With That Starbucks Latte

By Drew Hayes

Hard to imagine buying a Chipotle burrito with your double soy Americano at Starbucks? Or gulping down a Starbucks Iced Pumpkin Creme Matcha with your carne asada at Chipotle? Could happen. One could only dream–until now.

Starbucks has explored buying Chipotle, according to a Financial Times report citing people familiar with the discussions.

The coffee giant reportedly worked with advisers in recent months to examine a potential takeover. But there’s no announced agreement, and whether Starbucks has submitted a formal offer remains unclear.

There’s a familiar face behind the speculation: Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol ran Chipotle for about six years before joining Starbucks in twenty-twenty-four.

Chipotle shares jumped about six percent Thursday, putting its stock-market value near forty-one billion dollars. That’s a company valuation—not an agreed purchase price.

Starbucks declined to comment on the takeover report, saying it remains focused on its own turnaround. Chipotle did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
