A disturbing story out of the San Fernando Valley is raising serious questions about corporate priorities.
Employees at a Granada Hills Vons say managers kept the store open for nearly four hours after a customer died from an apparent medical emergency in the bakery aisle. Workers allege they were ordered to shield the body with shopping carts and umbrellas while customers continued shopping—and while the victim’s grieving family waited nearby.
The body remained in the aisle until a mortuary arrived. Vons’ parent company, Albertsons, says it is saddened by the tragedy and worked with emergency responders but has declined to comment further. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for retailers to adopt clear policies on how to handle deaths inside their stores.
