CBS is trying to recover the $50M per year in losses for the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. As a result the network is now selling the once valuable air time.
CBS says Bryon Allen is replacing Stephen Colbert for the late night slot, but what they won’t tell you is Allen is actually paying for that air-time. Yes, the Tiffany Network is now selling off late-night airtime that once commanded the inflation-adjusted equivalent of $230,000 for a single 60-second commercial in the show.
Host David Letterman made $290 million per year for CBS. CBS has not publicly disclosed the exact amount Byron Allen is paying for the former The Late Show with Stephen Colbert time slot. But multiple reports describe it as a “time buy” arrangement, meaning Allen is paying CBS for the airtime and then keeping and selling the advertising inventory himself.
Stephen Colbert destroyed the network’s profit. Colbert is a Democrat. Democrats destroy all that was good.
