California Exodus Watch — another California tech company is putting a major new operation somewhere else.
San Jose-based AI company Lambda announced plans for a massive new data center in Oklahoma.
The facility near Chouteau is expected to create about 1,000 construction jobs and up to 100 permanent jobs — with local officials projecting roughly half-a-billion dollars in tax revenue over ten years.
Oklahoma officials aren’t shy about why they landed it: infrastructure, workforce and what they call a “business-friendly environment.” And Oklahoma is growing. The state has added roughly 200,000 residents since the 2020 Census, pushing its population above 4.1 million. Oklahoma has also been aggressively pursuing data centers, aerospace, advanced manufacturing and other technology investment. All projects that California has stopped. A moratorium on date centers has recently been put in place in Los Angeles County.
So Lambda is putting its next major operation in a state that is adding people, jobs and new industry — not just offering cheaper real estate.
Lambda says it will pay its own power bill and upfront infrastructure costs.
