California Expansion Watch — California apparently had to put some money on the table to keep this manufacturer.
Juanita’s Foods, the 80-year-old maker of menudo and pozole, conducted what it calls an exhaustive nationwide search for its next manufacturing operation.
It ultimately decided to stay in Southern California, buying a 120,000-square-foot facility in Santa Fe Springs and moving production there from Wilmington.
But there’s an asterisk on this expansion.
Santa Fe Springs approved a loan of up to $13.5 million to help with relocation and equipment costs, along with additional permitting, relocation and employee incentives.
Juanita’s specifically says the competitive incentive package helped make staying in Southern California a “no-brainer.”
