As ICE prepares to roll out the G.L.O.V.E.–the Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter–to be used nationally in the apprehension of suspected immigrants here illegally, there is, as usual, a lot of noise from those who oppose border security. And as with many issues involving security and the border, California Dems lead chorus of ‘no’.
The California legislature has passed a ban on California law enforcement, and federal law enforcement from using these security devices with AB 2760, all Democrat backed bill, which the governor has a month to sign into law, as of this writing.
The bill says in, in part: This bill would, until January 1, 2030, prohibit a law enforcement agency, including a federal law enforcement agency, from using a wearable electroshock device within the State of California. The bill would also prohibit a state or local law enforcement agency from using state funds to purchase a wearable electroshock device. The bill would require a state or local law enforcement agency to update their use of force policies to prohibit the use of a wearable electroshock device.
It is unclear if this bill can actually dictate how federal agents do their jobs.
What is the bill intended to do? Stop law enforcement–state, local and federal, from using this tool. The below is from the website of the maker of the G.L.O.V.E., Compliant Technologies, who calls this tool a Conductive Distraction and De-escalation Device–not a shock glove, noting:
70% of officers killed with firearms are shot within 10 feet. The G.L.O.V.E. gives officers a non-lethal option at exactly that distance — bringing resisting subjects into compliance in seconds, without lasting harm to anyone involved.
The use of the G.L.O.V.E. is described on the website:
The G.L.O.V.E. quickly transforms into a CD3 (Conductive Distraction and De-escalation Device) when used within the Force Continuum to supplement existing tools for law enforcement, corrections, security, EMS, and the military. It is available as an “invisible partner” to enhance the user’s effectiveness when operating within their agencies’ already established tactics, techniques, and procedures. This is why we call the G.L.O.V.E. the “Force Multiplier” and how it operates within the Force Continuum as “The New Protocol in Peace Keeping.”
And Compliant Technologies provides this endorsement:
The controversy is not going away–neither is the need for border enforcement, or despite demands by some politicians, ICE. Now you are armed to have a knowledgeable discussion about this aspect of ICE’s plans and practices.
