You probably love to listen to your favorite AM radio station, home of talk radio hosts you love and news you need. And while you may listen via your phone or laptop when you’re home, you tune in to the AM radio when you’re in your car (especially when onLAca’s Jeff Vaughn is reporting the news on the John Phillips Show on KABC). But automakers, lately, seemingly, haven’t been aware of how important AM radio is.
The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act is now expected to receive a vote in Congress the week of September 14th. This legislation would require automakers to include AM radio as standard equipment in new vehicles, even in electric models. Proponents say that this is a vital safety feature as the AM radio provides news and information so vital in case of emergency–when the internet is down. And they have truly bi-partisan support.
The bill has been years in the making and will finally have a standalone vote this month.
