The L.A. mayor’s race takes a socialist turn.
Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman has received the endorsement of the Democratic Socialists of America.
More than 1,400 members of DSA-LA voted — and Raman cleared the required 60% threshold to win the endorsement.
Raman is herself a DSA member and was first elected to the Los Angeles City Council with the organization’s backing in 2020.
The endorsement could give Raman a significant grassroots boost against Mayor Karen Bass in the November 3 election, including volunteers, organizing and door-knocking.
But here’s what caught my attention:
I don’t know what’s more surprising — that Los Angeles could be on the verge of electing a DSA-backed mayor, or that more than 1,400 Democratic Socialists participated in this endorsement vote.
