Gavin Newsom thinks he has the plan to protect the world from the evils of a runaway AI that is bent on world destruction. He wants his fingers–or at least his fingerprints–on a “kill switch” that could be used in the event of what he considers a catastrophe. This week he signed an Executive Order that he claims would put guardrails around AI–including installing a “kill switch” that could stop the evil, rogue AI that Dems have spent the last few weeks doom-promoting.
The EO says it will: “Advance the creation of a “kill switch” for frontier models, with the efficacy of the switch verified on an ongoing basis by an independent verification organization.”
A “kill switch” ‘verified’ by some more bureaucrat experts. Really? Newsom’s picks to oversee this?
–You mean the Gavin Newsom who used his “kill switch” to close the beaches during COVID–which he himself now admits was insane?
–You mean the Gavin Newsom who used his “kill switch” to keep the schools closed for an unfathomable length of time?
–You mean the Gavin Newsom who used his “kill switch” to sign a bill that makes journalists reporting fraud–like Nick Shirley–criminals?
–You mean the Gavin Newsom who used his “kill switch” to stop a political parody of pols like Kamala Harris?
–You mean the Gavin Newsom who used his “kill switch to stop California gun ads he didn’t like?
–You mean the Gavin Newsom who used his “kill switch” to dismantle the California execution chamber after voters voted twice–on two measures–to have the death penalty enforced.
Seems this is a guy who already has a kill switch that he has frequently demonstrated his willingness to use for his political ends and political benefit–imagine his vision of a kill switch for AI, that he and his elite cadre of geniuses would devise and give ultimate power to. The whole idea needs its own kill switch.
