If Becerra Gets Elected, It’ll Cost You Mile After Mile

By Drew Hayes

Xavier Becerra has done painfully few interviews as he runs–or more accurately hides–for governor, in a manner that elicits the Joe Biden run-from-your-basement campaign strategy. And now it is even clearer why.

It started when Democratic gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra told reporter Ashley Zavala ‘everything should be on the table’—including a vehicle-miles-traveled tax—to ensure electric vehicle owners help fund road repairs.

Becerra’s campaign quickly walked that back, clarifying he has not proposed a mileage tax and believes working families already pay enough. Also reminiscent of Gaffer-in-Chief Biden.

But Republican rival Steve Hilton seized on the comments, vowing to veto any mileage tax and claiming it could cost drivers an extra $1,000 a year.

State officials have been studying a mileage fee to replace declining gas tax revenues as more Californians switch to EVs–which are not cheap, either.

Becerra gets in, we get more taxes. The Dems love to talk about affordability. How is making driving MORE expensive, making things more affordable?
