Newsom gets bad ratings when it comes to a subject he thinks he is the best at–freedom. California is near the bottom of another national ranking — this time measuring freedom.
The libertarian–not Republican, not Conservative–Cato Institute’s new Freedom in the 50 States report, Cato ranks Newsom 48th among the nation’s 50 governors, giving him an F for his record on economic and personal freedom. Newsom poor performance drags us down as California ranks 44th out of 50 states overall, and 48th in economic freedom.
The study examines taxes, government spending, business regulations, housing restrictions and personal liberties.
And Governor Gavin Newson–with his “Trump acts like a King” shtick, fares even worse., coming in second from the botttom. And it should really frost Newsom that his arch rivals–DeSantis of Florida and Abbot of Texas came in 3rd and 4th.
The report evaluates governors based on policies they’ve signed, vetoed or proposed — not simply conditions they inherited.
California’s high taxes, employment regulations and restrictions on housing construction contribute to its poor showing. Not a good platform to run for President.
Arizona, Montana and Nevada lead the state rankings.
For a governor who incessantly blathers about Trump being a threat to democracy and freedom and who frequently promotes California as a national model, Cato’s assessment delivers a decidedly different verdict. Newsom is the one who believes, and acts like, he is the King.
