The study tracks QSRs-quick service restaurants like McDonald’s and Taco Bell, and FSRs–full-serivce restaurants that includes the Outbacks and Olive Gardens of the world. Remember the day when no one tipped at McDonalds?
The Toast report reveals: Delaware tips the most (21.4% overall); California tips the least (17.1%). “Overall Tips” is calculated by taking the total amount of tips divided by Gross Processing Volume. It is not the average of QSR tips and FSR tips for the period.
And for the record, while California is the worst tipping state, a 2023 YouGov poll found America is far and away the best tipping coutry:
