Captured by US Marshalls at an apartment complex in Las Vegas, 22 year old Zymire Hughes was arrested on an aggravated assault warrant and is being held following a two-week manhunt. He will be sent back to Philadelphia to face charges.
August 21–A nationwide manhunt now has a Los Angeles connection — and police say the suspect may already be here.
Philadelphia police are searching for 22-year-old Zymire Hughes, accused of terrorizing people while wearing a creepy “Chucky-style” Halloween mask.
Investigators say Hughes has deep work and personal ties to Los Angeles, frequently travels between L.A. and Las Vegas, and may have fled Pennsylvania for Southern California. Surveillance video reportedly shows him packing his bags and leaving his Philadelphia apartment two nights ago.
Police say Hughes targeted at least 15 or 16 people near Philadelphia City Hall on August 12 — running up to people, chasing them and recording the encounters on his phone.
In one case, police say he repeatedly asked a 40-year-old jogger if she was “ready to die.” She ran and suffered a serious leg injury.
Hughes is on probation and now faces felony and misdemeanor charges including assault, harassment, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and intimidation.
Southern California and Nevada law enforcement agencies are now watching transportation hubs and investigating possible sightings.
So this is no longer just a Philadelphia story. Police say the man behind that Chucky mask could now be somewhere in Los Angeles — and if you see him, call 911.
