The iconic highway turns 100 this year. You may not know it, but a commission was created to celebrate the creation of the connector from Chicago to Santa Monica in California. The romance and mystery has been honored on TV (the great eponymous Martin Milner/George Maharis show) and in the great Nat King Cole song with a cover by the Rolling Stones (see it below). The national kickoff of celebration is this week… drive safely and get your kicks on Route 66.
