A new investment program for kids is officially open. The new Trump Accounts give eligible U.S. citizen children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, a one-time $1,000 investment from the federal government. Parents, grandparents, employers, and others can contribute up to $5,000 with the money invested in low-cost stock index funds designed to grow over time. The account belongs to the child and can generally be accessed at age 18 for expenses like college, buying a first home, or starting a business.
Parents or legal guardians can open a Trump Account for an eligible child through the official program. Open an account through filing IRS Form 4547 online with the IRS or the official Trump Accounts portal.
