Governor Gavin Newsom is taking on Big Tech, and political observers see the move as aimed well beyond Sacramento—and an effort to energize the socialist wing of the Democratic Party.

According to Politico, Newsom is targeting tech companies by calling for stronger oversight and regulation of artificial intelligence, social media and corporate influence. The platform appears to be part of a potential 2028 presidential campaign.

Critics say the message borrows from democratic socialist themes by calling for greater government control over private companies.

Paramount could become the next major company to leave California.

According to the California Globe, Tennessee is actively courting the company as Paramount weighs moving its headquarters—and as much as $30 billion in annual spending—out of California.

The move comes amid a legal battle over Paramount’s proposed $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, which has been approved by federal regulators, but California Attorney General Rob Bonta is trying to block. The combined Paramount-Warner Bros. company employs roughly 10,000 people in Los Angeles.

It’s clear Tennessee officials see an opportunity to lure high-paying entertainment jobs and production dollars away from Hollywood.

I’m told Paramount executives are seriously considering relocating their headquarters to avoid delays caused by the state and to benefit from lower taxes and what critics describe as California’s corporate overreach.
